APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Students interested in applying to the Ph.D. programmes of the Graduate School are invited to fill in the application form and to submit:

- their Curriculum Vitae (CV);
- a research project in English;
- two letters of recommendation;
- a University transcript indicating the courses attended, the marks obtained and final GPA (grade point average);
- copy of the Master dissertation (if any) including an English abstract;
- scientific publications if any.

Students must specify which of the four Ph.D. Programmes of the Graduate School they are applying to.

The SELECTION process

Admission to the Ph.D. programmes is in two stages.

In the first stage, the Examining Committee evaluates the qualifications for compliance with the criteria established by the Ph.D. Faculty Committee.

In the second stage the candidates will be interviewed by the Ph.D. Faculty Committee, in order to ascertain the applicant’s degree of preparation, skills and aptitude for scientific research and personal motivation. The interview also aims to verify the applicant’s knowledge in the educational and academic areas specified for the Ph.D. and includes the applicant’s formal presentation of the research project (s)he proposes to conduct.

For foreign students, who are not able to come to Milan for the interview, special arrangements – e.g. remote phone calls – will be provided. Further information will be available after the release of the First Call.

Students will be finally enrolled in September 2007.

Courses will start in late September 2007.

In the academic year 2006-2007:

- the Ph.D. in Economics has admitted 14 students, 7 of these with a scholarship
- the Ph.D. in Labour Studies has admitted 6 students, 3 of these with a scholarship
- the Ph.D. in Political Studies has admitted 8 students, 4 of these with a scholarship
- the Ph.D. in Sociology has admitted 8 students, 4 of these with a scholarship.

The number of scholarships and admissions is not expected to vary for the academic year 2007-2008. In December 2006 and May 2007 the Graduate School executive Board will take decisions on this point, as illustrated in the "Scholarships" section.
